1 year by distance learning

School of Applied Sciences
Ellison Building, Newcastle City Campus

This course has been designed to meet the needs of health professionals and educators who wish to improve their practical anatomical knowledge as part of their continuing professional development.

The course is unique in that it is currently the only online anatomy course available that includes a cadaveric based summer school and leads to a UK qualification. Teaching will be a blended approach of using distance learning and face to face methods.

Anatomy is the foundation of clinical practice and the participants on this certificate should be able to appraise the usefulness of the anatomy that they are learning. The human body is the best reference source to learn anatomy from and, as such, the cadaveric based summer school will be an essential part of this course.

This course comprises the fundamental principles of human gross anatomy and their applications in the health care service. It consists of custom made online modules, handbooks and a one week summer school. The website and handbook will introduce you to basic and applied anatomy. In the summer school, you will learn anatomy from internationally recognised anatomists. You will be able to use and apply your learning in this module to explain and interpret common clinical problems associated with the entire human body.

The summer school will be based at the School of Applied Sciences at Northumbria University.
