Physiotherapy Studies MSc
COURSE INFORMATION (2013 ENTRY)
2 - 3 years part-time
Health and Life SciencesCoach Lane Campus
The MSc Physiotherapy Studies programme provides the opportunity for rigorous critical enquiry of the evidence-base, research, decision making processes and taken-for-granted assumptions supporting physiotherapy practice. The programme will enable students to develop an increasing respect for evidence and health discourses and the capacity to initiate and sustain change, both in their own practice and more generally within their professional context.
The areas covered will include:
• A range of philosophical and policy perspectives on research and practice in the field of physiotherapy
• Access to a variety of information sources which provide theoretical and practical insight into a range of issues in the field of physiotherapy and health and social care
• Development of knowledge in specific areas of physiotherapy
• Evaluation of selected areas of physiotherapy in terms of politics, policy, ethics and governance.
The programme seeks to promote rigorous critical enquiry and to extend the criteria for judging taken-for-granted assumptions underlying policy and practice in physiotherapy. The programme will enable students to develop an increasing respect for evidence and discourse and the capacity to initiate and sustain change, both in their own practice and more generally within their professional context.
The MSc Physiotherapy Studies programme is particularly suited to practitioners with an ambition to develop physiotherapy services within their area of practice and would enhance prospects for progress through a physiotherapy and/or health care career. It would also serve to support development towards further study and research at doctorate level.
