Entry Requirements

Compulsory Requirements

Five GCSEs at grade C or above including English Language and Mathematics.

• GCE and VCE Advanced Level:
  

  320 UCAS Tariff points

• Edexcel/BTEC National:
  

  Distinction, Distinction, Merit

• Scottish Highers:
  

  BBBBB at Higher level, BBB at Advanced Higher.

• Irish Highers:
  

  AABBB

• Progression Diploma:
  

  Grade A.

• Advanced Diploma:
  

  Grade C in the Progression Diploma, plus 120 UCAS Tariff Points from GCE/VCE A level or BTEC National Award

• IB Diploma:
  

  27 points.

• HEFC Access:
  

   Three Distinctions and three Merits, plus Toolbox

• Other QAA-recognised access programme:
  

  Full Access award. Some units should be achieved at Distinction, the remainder at Merit.  Access course students without GCSEs are not required to take these qualifications in addition to their Access award, but must ensure that any required subjects are fully met within their Access course.

• Return to Learning:
  

  We welcome applications from mature students and are willing to consider, on an individual basis, those who do not meet traditional entry criteria. We are strongly supportive of the University's Higher Education Foundation Course (HEFC), which provides an excellent basis for preparing adult students for entry to Higher Education - more details are available from the Return to Learning Service.

• International/English Language Requirements:
  

   

  Students whose first language is not English are required to satisfy a minimum proficiency in both written and spoken English. They should have studied at undergraduate level in English, or have one of the following English language proficiency qualifications: a British Council International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of *6.0 (or above) or a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 547 (or above). The University also accepts many other English language qualifications. Please contact the Admissions Office where staff will be happy to advise you.
  
  *For each of the components within IELTS, applicants must not drop below 0.5 of the required level.

Additional Notes:

Advanced entry to Level 5 (full time second year or part time third year) may be requested by suitably qualified applicants. An HND, Foundation Degree or good quality HNC (defined as a minimum of 6 merits) in Building Services Engineering or a closely related subject are suitable prior qualifications.

All appropriate advanced entry requests will be interviewed to assess the applicants appropriate entry point.
