Business with International Management BA (Hons)
COURSE INFORMATION (2013 ENTRY)
3 years full-time or 4 years sandwich
Business and LawLaw and NBS Building, City Campus East
Our successful 'Business with ...' programme introduces you to the world of business whilst allowing you to combine key business subjects with the study of an specialism pathway, in this case International Management. It offers the ultimate in flexibility for students eager to enter the world of business.
The first year includes an introduction to your chosen pathway. However if, during your studies, you become interested in another area, you simply swap (normally in the second year) to one of the other ‘minors’ or pathways (certain conditions may exist).
Business with ... recognises that students do not always know which programme they wish to study from the outset. As well as being highly flexible, this programme gives you the chance to explore unfamiliar areas of study before making your final choice of degree.
Placement
There is an opportunity to undertake a year long paid placement at the end of Year 2. Students will get full support from the Placements Office to obtain a placement to prepare them for final year studies and future employment.
LEARNING AND TEACHING METHODS
The programme is delivered using a combination of lecture, seminar, workshops, open learning material via our e-Learning platform, and visiting speakers.
The programme involves both directed and independent learning.
Directed learning includes a range of activates including pre-reading, preparation for seminar activity, preparing for presentations etc. Guidance is given through each module’s Learning and Teaching Plan or through specific instruction related to a particular task. During Independent Learning the student pursues areas of interest through a range of learning activities that include reading, reflection and research, in order to acquire deeper or broader knowledge of the subject area.
ASSESSMENT METHODS
The assessment strategy provides a broad spectrum of approaches with the earlier years typically assessed by portfolio, assignment and exams, and the final year mainly by assignment. Many of assessments are based on real life case studies and business scenarios and as such are an authentic and practice relevant representation of how businesses work. In their final year, all students will undertake a major in-depth piece of work in a topic area of their choosing.
CAREERS
Graduates of this programme could expect to go on to careers in consultancy, marketing, health management, human resource management and many others including establishing successful small businesses. Due to the nature of their degree they are likely to apply to international organisations to utilise their diverse cultural appreciation and knowledge.
