This programme provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the theories, methods, findings and applications of psychology. All the areas that are essential for accreditation by the British Psychological Society are covered in depth in the programme, and progression provides students with increasing opportunities for choice. In Year 2 of the programme they choose two specialised option modules, and in Year 3 they choose four options and complete an individual honours project on a topic of particular interest to them. The programme is structured so as to enable students to become accomplished independent learners, exhibiting problem-solving, communication and interpersonal skills of a high order.

LEARNING AND TEACHING METHODS

A mixture of lectures, workshops and practical sessions will cover core areas of psychology at an introductory level and as you progress through the programme, you will select optional modules which will allow you to craft a degree pathway that reflects your interest and expertise in one or more avenues of psychology.

Optional modules often include opportunities to engage with case study examples, observing specialist practitioners at work and may include the opportunity to engage with specialist equipment and build a portfolio of working practice.

In your final year, you will produce an original piece of empirical research in which you will be supported by a supervisor. 

ASSESSMENT METHODS

You'll be assessed in a varied and progressive way, through multiple choice exams, seen and unseen exams, essays, laboratory reports, visual and oral presentations, reading logs, critiques, case studies and dissertation. 

Assessment methods will allow you to engage in individual and group work, student-staff and student-student dialogue and consultation to attain a range of knowledge, intellectual, practical and key skills.

ACCREDITATION

This programme is accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) as conferring eligibility for Graduate Membership of the Society with the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership, provided the minimum standard of qualification of second class honours is achieved. CAREERS

Students are well supported in their careers pursuits. General and specific careers advice, psychometric testing and postgraduate information are provided, as well as an annual Psychology Careers Day where former students and other guest speakers deliver informative talks and answer questions.

The British Psychological Society Appointments Memorandum is available for job and course information. Students whose degree confers eligibility for Graduate Membership of the British Psychological Society with the Graduate Basis for Registration can choose to pursue training for a range of careers in psychology.

Academic development weeks provide an opportunity to engage in activities and skill development in areas such as positive psychology and well-being, presentation skills and time management.
