Fashion Marketing is a unique programme of study, which offers students a broad spectrum of creative activities as well as a solid grounding in business and contextual studies. The degree’s main aim is to explore the fashion design process from trend research and concept generation through to product development and promotion. Fashion Marketing is primarily a design-led, creative programme of study. It will appeal to those individuals who are committed to study fashion design, yet who wish to encompass the experiences of contextual studies and promotional activities.
Students studying Fashion Marketing benefit from our unique structure, which enables them to pursue design projects in fashion, fashion forecasting, graphics, illustration, photographic styling and promotional techniques. To enable our students to place this creative thinking into a business context, the syllabus is complimented by a taught programme of contextual studies, which considers Marketing, Marketing Research, Enterprise, Consumer Behaviour and Contemporary Design Influences.
Industrial experience is gained through a 12-month placement, which is undertaken during the second and third year of the programme. This work-based learning gives the students an invaluable insight into careers within the industry and enhances their Curriculum Vitae upon graduation. Students in their final year draw upon their experiences to enable them to specialise in their final year-long Final Major Project, completed in the two main areas of Fashion Product (menswear, womenswear, lingerie, performance wear, accessories or homewear) or Graphics and Illustration (magazines, trend books or graphic product).
Based in the brand new multi-million pound campus, our students have access to excellent studio facilities, including garment production workrooms, information technology resources, and photographic and film editing facilities. The excellent teaching is underpinned by visiting lecturers and alumni, and students are invited to the exhibitions and many conferences that are regular events in our new facilities. Communication skills are enhanced through regular project critiques and confidence is developed through industry collaborations and competitions, where students gain experiences working to a ‘live’ industrial brief.
Fashion Marketing has gained an excellent reputation for producing award-winning, confident, flexible and professional individuals and boasts a 91% employment rate within the fashion-related industries.
