International Business Management with French BA (Hons)
COURSE INFORMATION (2013 ENTRY)
4 years sandwich
Business and LawLaw and NBS Building, City Campus East
The knowledge and understanding of international issues and the dynamics of global business is vital for our future business leaders. The International Business Management degrees provide the broad theoretical and practical background to understand and make decisions in these rapidly changing environments; together with the transferable skills that are attractive to all employers.
The four year International Business Management degree ‘with language’ effectively provides you with a double advantage. The fact that you have been studying an international business degree and are fluent in a second language is highly attractive to prospective employers.
Your international placement in the third year not only provides additional international experience but it also helps to build on the essential attributes of self- confidence and cultural awareness which will be evident at any subsequent interview. Students on this programme are expected to spend the third academic year studying or working in a country that uses the language studied in their degree.
International Opportunities
In addition to studying or working outside the UK, the programme is delivered and managed by experienced international managers to cohorts of international students. The same programme is delivered at locations on mainland Europe and in Asia and provides an additional international dimension to the student experience.
LEARNING AND TEACHING METHODS
The programme is delivered through a combination of lectures, seminars, workshops, open learning material via our e-Learning platform, and visiting speakers and includes directed and independent learning to acquire deeper or broader knowledge of the subject area.
You will take a placement in a French-speaking country which can be for work, study or a combination of both. Those on a work placement can develop their skills in an industrial environment, while those on a study placement can experience learning environments abroad. The learning and teaching methods applied will be dependent on those of the institution you are based at.
ASSESSMENT METHODS
You'll be assessed in a variety of ways including coursework, written examinations and practical exercises. Many assessments are based on real-life case studies and business scenarios, ensuring they are an authentic and relevant representation of how businesses work. In the final year, you will undertake a major in-depth piece of work investigating a topic of your choice relevant to international business.
CAREERS
Graduates can expect to gain employment in fields such as finance, marketing, tourism or human resource management, in both national and internationalisation organisations, most of whom demand competences in a second language. Our graduates are working for organisations including IBM, Le Shakespeare and Siemens.
