At Northumbria’s School of Architecture and Built Environment we’re not just designing buildings – we are re-shaping the way people live, work, learn and connect. From concept to construction our work creates buildings and environments that enhance life and protect the planet.

Whether you’re exploring responsible architecture, the latest innovations in biomaterials or advanced construction technologies, you’ll be tackling real-world challenges aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. From climate change to solving the housing crisis, we’re taking on the biggest issues for our built environment and shaping the cities of tomorrow.

A MULTI-PROFESSIONAL COMMUNITY

Our school brings together a wide range of built environment professionals under one roof. This has allowed us to create a community of architects, interior architects, surveyors, construction and project managers, and real estate experts who are united by a common purpose to enrich lives.

LEARNING BY EXPERIENCE

Our staff draw from pioneering research and industry experience to guide students through hands-on, real-world learning.

You might find yourself practicing negotiating skills through project work, engaging field trips, designing solutions with civic or cultural institutions, or working directly with communities to co-create environments that truly respond to people’s needs. Every project is different; every challenge is authentic.

We’re proud to be a collaborative, student-first school that values equality, sustainability, and positive impact. You’ll study in amazing facilities – including our architecture studios and Built Environment Hub – and learn in ways that reflect how industry actually works.

BUILDING BRIGHT FUTURES

Our courses are accredited by all the major professional bodies, including RIBA, RICS, CIOB, and APM – and our graduates are in high demand. We run degree apprenticeships as well as undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and have extensive links with industry partners including Ryder Architecture, Faulkner Browns, Balfour Beatty and Turner and Townsend.

This is a school where ideas become action, and students become confident, capable professionals ready to shape the future of our built world.

ACCREDITATIONS

We’ve built strong relationships with a number of professional and regulatory bodies who accredit many of our courses. This helps keep our course content current and in line with industry standards.
