General Information about University Residences

All accommodation comprises single study bedrooms, mainly in flats for 4-6 students. The main types are as follows:
- Residences with private bathrooms, in flats, built 2002-2008: Camden Court, Knoll Court, Quay Point and Victoria Hall (Total 1520 rooms).
- Residences with shared bathrooms, in flats or houses, built or refurbished in the 1990s: Glenamara House, Stephenson Building, Marleen Court, Albion House, Rubicon House, Clapham House. Also Rothbury Hall at Coach Lane. Total 1040 rooms.
- Halls of Residence (rooms along a corridor) built in 1960s or 1970s with refurbishment since: Lovaine Hall (self catering or with meals), Claude Gibb Hall, (with meals), and Finchale Hall, Coach Lane Campus, (self catering). Total 470 rooms.
Room sizes - Most rooms are an average size of 9.5m2 to 10m2, furnished with single bed, wardrobe, desk and chair, etc. Somes residences have larger or smaller rooms or a range of room sizes, and a guide is given in the description of each residence.
Shared kitchens are equipped with cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave and vacuum cleaner.
Bedding (sheets, pillows and pillowcases, duvets and duvet covers) is not provided in any residences.
Fuel - Accommodation fees often include heating and lighting; where gas and/or electricity is not included you should allow on average £9 per week.
Parking is not available on the City and Coach Lane campuses or at several other residences. Where parking is provided, spaces are usually limited and offered on a first come first served basis after room offers have been confirmed. In most cases an annual charge is payable. Telephone/Internet access - Most residences have this facility although the type of provision does vary. See the individual residence descriptions for more information. Please note that peer-to-peer file sharing is not available.
Personal possessions insurance - a basic insurance
package is included in the rent of University residences; campus block
halls group scheme for Northumbria. Further details will be sent with
your offer of accommodation and you can increase the cover if required. For

Private hall providers have similar arrangements.
What to Bring - Not too much – the rooms are not that big. Our information leaflet, that can be found on the University Accommodation website, gives detailed information for your residence but general lists of useful things to bring to University can be found at a number of websites – you will definitely need to bring a desk lamp - but NO candles please :

Contracts and Tenancy Agreements - Please note that in all University accommodation, students are expected to pay for a full year and will have to sign a binding Tenancy Agreement for the appropriate length of contract - usually minimum 43/44 weeks. Students who wish to move out during the year will only be given permission once a suitable replacement student has been found to take over the contract and on payment of an administration fee.
