Singapore partnership brings first-class results
Five students from Singapore have graduated from one of Northumbria’s most challenging programmes.![]() |
Northumbria’s
collaborative agreement with Temasek Polytechnic in Singapore offers the
chance for graduates of the Temasek Diploma in Intelligent Building
Technology to enter onto the final year of Northumbria’s BEng
(Hons) Building Services Engineering programme.Tay Shuang Yan, Ivy Xin Peng Wei, Tobias Li Hang and Cheng
Wei were awarded second-class honours while Joshua Fong graduated with a
first-class degree.
Joshua Fong
said of the course: “Building Services Engineering isn’t a commonly known
subject area, but the programme basically involves the study of all
services such as heating, cooling, comfort, lighting, communications, lift
services etc within a building. Graduates from this course use their
knowledge and understanding of sustainable/renewable systems to design
“green” solutions to benefit the environment.”
“I will be
continuing with my Masters in Building Services Engineering at Northumbria,
which hopefully will enable me to get my Chartered Engineer status after
working for 3 years upon graduation.”
Programme
Leader Lawrence Hughes added “It has been
a pleasure to teach this group of students. It should not be underestimated
that they have entered a difficult degree as it reached it most challenging
stage and succeeded. I would also add that the dimension these
international students bring has improved the dynamics and the discussion
within class and broadened the minds of our home students. I have
seen some close friendships develop over the last year and I think these
will continue long into the future.”
