Choreography professionals retrace first steps

Professional choreographers returned to the stage where their careers were shaped when they performed back at Northumbria.

HypDance Theatre company's 'Motion in Perspective'

Claire Dixon and Victoria Wright, co-directors of HypDance Theatre Company and graduates from Northumbria’s BA (Hons) Dance Choreography degree course, showcased their latest work, 'Motion in Perspective', at the University recently.

'Motion in Perspective' is an exploration of the physical relationship between dance and live music.

Victoria told us, “We aim to explore this concept on a larger scale in the future and we are using these performances as a way to gauge audience reaction to our ideas. With Motion in Perspective we wanted to create something new in which there is a clear interaction between the two art forms; neither one more important than the other.”

Claire added: “As choreographers, our styles are very different yet our ideas are similar. We have made many pieces together and are hoping to develop this into our first big production.”

The dance performance took place in the Lipman Theatre and also featured performances by current second and third year students from the BA(Hons) Dance Choreography degree. They were joined by students from Northumbria's BA (Hons) Dance course at Edinburgh’s Telford College (validated by Northumbria University) also presented jazz and contemporary dance pieces from their recent tour of schools and community venues.
