Built Environment students head back to the CONSTRUCTIONARIUM for 2010
Students on Construction programmes will have the opportunity to take part in some real building work at the National Construction College in Kings Lynn to be completed by Easter 2010.![]() |
The College is part of ConstructionSkills the Sector Skills Council for Construction representing every part of the construction industry, and is running Constructionarium 2010, from Sunday 25th April until Saturday 1st May.
The event takes the form of a 6 day working field course. During the study visit, students are guided by professionals and work within teams to carry out the construction of a project such as scaled down versions of bridges, buildings, dams and civil engineering projects. They will experience preparing method statements, carrying out risk assessments and costing and monitoring the costs of the project, typically working at a scale of 1:20. It is an intensive week long construction experience for students, enabling them to work alongside people who work in the industry. At the end of the 6 days the students are then assessed in terms of budgetary control, methodology and timely completion.
Constructionarium 2010 has only been made possible by the project’s
sponsors from industry. GB Building Solutions Ltd, is a national
construction company working in a variety of sectors, they have provided
Constructionarium with supervisory staff, materials and plant. Core People
Recruitment is one of the largest recruitment agencies in the region;
and Spaceworks Architecture & Management who are one of the
largest North East design practices and who have most recently joined the
Constructionarium Team; all bringing much needed sponsorship and
educational support for this unique Northumbria University event.
