Students Dulcie Dryden, Nicola Morgan, Charlotte Simpson and Christina Duggan, were recognised for their creative clothes designs shown on the catwalk during the annual fashion show at Earls Court, London.

Charlotte, from Sheffield, was awarded the Zandra Rhodes catwalk textiles prize for her womenswear collection. Charlotte took the inspiration for her designs from Turkish architecture and colour, after a trip to Istanbul. She said: “I made a lot of my own fabric and used leather, suede and brightly coloured silks.”

Dulcie won the Jon Adam Fashion Portfolio Award. She explained her collection to us: “I used feminine floaty fabrics in masculine colours and lots of metalics. It was fantastic to see my work on the runways.”

Nicola walked away with the Fashion Innovation Award; and fashion marketing student Christina was awarded the Per Aquum Creative Marketing Award.

The BA (Hons) Fashion degree offers pathways in menswear, womenswear, textiles and knitwear and is designed for creative, ambitious and committed students who wish to make a positive contribution to the fashion industry.

Northumbria’s School of Design, and especially the fashion department, is internationally recognised for producing innovative and hands-on designers.  Fashion course leader, Chris Hodge, said: “We are absolutely thrilled. We put out a very diverse show exhibiting a broad range of techniques.  The standard was very high this year and Northumbria has had an excellent response from industry professionals, programme leaders from across the UK, and the media.”
