Professor Fraser McLeay - 15 June 2010

Academic, Newcastle Business School

Northumbria University Inaugural Lecture – Tuesday, 15 June 2010 at 6pm.
Professor Fraser McLeay, Professor of Marketing, Newcastle Business School.

I am pleased to invite you to an inaugural lecture to be delivered by Professor Fraser McLeay of Newcastle Business School. Professor McLeay’s lecture is Where Practice Meets Theory: Lessons from Marketing’s School of Hard Knocks.

Marketing is frequently misunderstood and occasionally maligned for encouraging people to purchase items they do not need or cannot afford.

In his inaugural lecture, Professor McLeay will argue that marketing should be the most critical component of business development.

Using examples of successes and failures drawn from his own career, Professor McLeay will integrate practice with theory and explore if we should go back to marketing basics, break old marketing rules or redefine marketing’s boundaries.

Fraser McLeay has more than 20 years of leadership experience in marketing, strategic management and international business. He has helped SMEs and multinational organisations in more than 50 countries to develop and implement start-up, business expansion and new product strategies.

He has held positions at the Montana World Trade Center in the United States, Macquarie University in Australia, Newcastle University and Lincoln University, New Zealand. Prior to his appointment as Professor of Marketing at Newcastle Business School, Professor McLeay was the owner and manager of a United States based business development consulting and export management company.
