An innovative system used by professional financiers throughout the world has arrived in the North East, thanks to Newcastle Business School at Northumbria University. |
Northumbria is the first UK University north of London to install Bloomberg Financial Services Terminals for their business school students, staff and clients to use.
So far more than 300 undergraduate and postgraduate students have received training in how to use the Bloomberg professional service, which provides real-time and historical financial news and information aiding those within the financial services industries to trade, research and communicate with each other.
Newcastle Business School will also soon introduce short evening and weekend courses on finance and financial markets, which will incorporate the Bloomberg Certification and use of the terminals.
Martin Elliott, from Durham, is currently studying a Masters in Global Financial Management. The 22-year-old said: “The new systems at the School are excellent and offer a fantastic opportunity for myself and other finance students both in terms of aiding our studies and the experience of using this software, which links the real world with the academic community. Also the opportunity of completing the Bloomberg qualification, which I intend doing later this year, will look good on my CV and help when looking for my first post-qualification job.”
Senior Lecturer Dr Satish Sharma said: “Bloomberg is a premier financial database used the world over by thousands of professionals within the financial services industry to help them make informed decisions about financial and business issues that they face on a day to day basis.
“The Bloomberg terminals installed at Newcastle Business School not only give our students access to this information which enhances their learning but gives any student who is competent with the system a real competitive edge in the job marketplace.”
The terminals are housed within Newcastle Business School at Northumbria’s award winning City Campus East, and are also available for use by staff and clients.
