The Angel of the North

The Angel of the North

Antony Gormley's Angel of the North stands on a low hill next to the main A1 southern road approach to Newcastle. At 20 metres high and with a wingspan of 54 metres, it dominates the skyline. Constructed of weathering steel, the same material that was used for centuries to build ships on the River Tyne, it pays tribute to the long industrial heritage of the region.
