Things you'll love about Northumbria
Sports Facilities
Northumbria University has always been one of the most ambitious and successful UK universities for sport and in summer 2010 opened the doors to a state-of-the-art £30 million sport facility - Sport Central. With its striking architecture, Sport Central is a stunning new landmark building in Newcastle's city centre. In addition, there are modern indoor and outdoor sports facilities also at Coach Lane Campus.
Students' Union
Our Students' Union has been officially named as the UK's Union of the Year by the National Union of Students (NUS). The award came after a major campaign to increase involvement in student societies and community engagement and a multimillion pound refurbishment of the Students' Union building.
First Class IT Support
Northumbria students benefit from our award-winning IT facilities such as specialist School IT labs and newly equipped Open Access IT areas. We have informal IT areas all around campus including internet and learning cafes. Students can also connect their own laptops or phones anywhere on campus to our free wireless network. And if there are any problems, our IT Helpline is staffed 24x7.
University Library
The extensive Libraries at City Campus and Coach Lane provide access to more than 500,000 books, 300+ databases, and over 30,000 journals. The City Campus Library is open 24/7 during term time, including the Basement Cafe. Help is available 24 hours a day - in person, by telephone or by email - via our ask4help service.
Loads of student accommodation
Need somewhere to live? Northumbria has a variety of accredited, safe student accommodation - of which around 40% now include an en-suite bathroom!
A range of bursaries and scholarships
City Campus East
The School of Design, the Northumbria Law School and the Newcastle Business School are housed in our stunning City Campus East. This £135m futuristic development was described as, "one of the most exciting new estate developments in the sector" by the Times Higher Education Supplement. The development has won numerous awards for its design and construction, including being named North East Landmark of The Year in 2007.
As well as the innovative interior, the exterior of the buildings also plays a major part in the new landmark status as they are illuminated each night, providing a stunning addition to the city's skyline.
Coach Lane Campus
The School of Health, Community and Education Studies is based at Coach Lane Campus, three miles from the city centre. Coach Lane has modern facilities including a new Clinical Skills Centre, library, and its own sports centre and outdoor sports pitches. A free shuttle bus runs regularly between City and Coach Lane Campus.
