Checking for disruption before setting off can save travellers huge amounts of stress, a new study based at Northumbria University has revealed.
Fifty-five percent of the UK population are planning a trip across the country or overseas in the next few days according to recent reports. Motorways are expected to be congested, train companies are carrying out repairs and, according to the Association of British Travel Agencies (ABTA), almost two million people will be travelling overseas.

An exhibition of some of the world’s most iconic celebrities is currently running at the Northumbria University Gallery.
The collection of photographs by Sally Soames, featuring stunning portraits of famous names from the past 50 years, is running in conjunction with an exhibition of paintings and etchings by Dutch artist Marcelle Hanselaar.
Sally Soames has worked as a freelance photographer for the Observer, The Guardian, The New York Times, Newsweek and the Sunday Times as well as various film and television companies in the UK and USA. The Northumbria Conference, which is designed to promote learning and teaching enhancement, will be held on Thursday, 9 September.
The conference gives staff the opportunity to showcase innovative activity and learn about learning and teaching developments across the University.
The plenary session is entitled ‘Innovation, Research, Culture, International: exploring the learning experience at Northumbria.’
In a discussion chaired by Professor Jane Core, Director of Academic Services, staff will have the opportunity to explore the implications for learning and teaching at Northumbria.

Northumbria’s website has been named one of the best in the country – by potential students.
In a survey for The Times Higher a panel of UK sixth-formers was asked what they thought of university websites and Northumbria emerged as one of the best-performing in terms of providing potential students with the information they need to know.
The University scored top marks for the insight into university life it provides on its website. Northumbria’s website offers 360⁰ panoramic views of the campus as well as a video footage of life at the University and interviews with students.

Northumbria University will host one of this year’s national UK Student Games events at its new flagship sports facility this summer.
Sport Central is one of seven venues across the North East to host the games and the facility will host the Volleyball tournaments in partnership with the Youth Sport Trust.
The UK Student Games is a unique multi-sport event for elite athletes of school age which aims to celebrate the best of the UK’s 18 athletic talent.
