Junior Evolve 

Our Junior Evolve programme is delivered by our dedicated team of Graduate Ambassadors and Outreach Coordinators.This activity focuses on raising students' awareness and aspiration to Higher Education through a series of interactive events and activities detailed below. Please note, all of our activity is free of charge.

We offer a range of workshops and interactive activities, both on and off campus, which aim to:

Support aspirations and raise awareness of Higher Education

Introduce students to Higher Education and the range of subjects available to study

Support the development of study skills to be successful at university

Provide opportunities to meet current Northumbria University students

Junior Evolve Workshops

This workshop gives pupils an insight into university life in an interactive environment using guided discovery learning. The pupils will be presented with a series of scenarios that a student may face and will be awarded points based on the decisions they make. Pupils will find out about the academic and extracurricular activities on offer to students.

This session is designed to introduce some of the key aspects and options students have at university including courses, social life and extra circular activities. Focused on team work the students will design and present characters which they have created based on a student’s uni bag, allowing the other teams to ask questions about their character. The students will then have an opportunity to ask a Graduate Ambassador and current students any questions they have about university.

Best of Business gives students a fun introduction to thinking about aspects of a business they will know but haven't thought of before. The activities include Branding Bingo, examples of adverts and a Cash Flow Challenge. Students will grasp a general overview of business concepts and an insight into what Business students learn at university.

This highly interactive session sees students play a giant board game, answering a variety of questions from finance to social life, to subtly introduce the idea of University. It also allows the students to work as a team.

The game consists of various rounds in which four teams of pupils will compete against each other. These rounds introduce Year 9 pupils to the possibilities of further education and encourages them to carefully consider the educational choices they are making from this year onward, as well as introducing concepts and vocabulary used in Higher Education.

Study Smart is a new and interactive workshop designed for students taking on their GCSEs. The session covers learning styles, revision techniques and tools, transferable skills and other top tips for revision.

This activity is designed to help Year 11 students with the transition from GCSEs through to sixth form. The workshop aims to help students make informed decisions, introduce Higher Education, and address key study skills. Pupils will take part in a skills analysis, find out the differences between school and sixth form, discuss the opportunities they could take advantage of during sixth form and what the benefits of the sixth form experience.


Subject Specific Workshops - Year 5 and 6

Our subject specific workshops are delivered by our team of Graduate Ambassadors and designed to challenge KS2 pupils to use the content from the National Curriculum to solve problems, win challenges and explore typical classroom topics in an alternative and exciting setting.

Pupils will answer a variety of maths questions from the worlds of Harry Potter, Roald Dahl and David Walliams. the session will cover addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, fractions, weight and time and the addition of money.

Pupils will race against the clock to break free from the English Escape Room. Following clues, pupils will crack codes and solve puzzles using their knowledge of spelling, punctuation, homophones, metaphors and similes and word functions (e.g. nouns, verbs and adjectives).
