Georgina Ablett, originally from Leeds studied BSc (Hons) Estate Management and as part of this programme undertook a placement with EC Harris in Leeds, where she has now returned to work permanently in a graduate position.

Similarly, Victoria Scott who gained an upper second class honours in the same programme,  is now working for DTZ McCombie Pearce in Belfast after also having done a placement here during her degree.

Barry Errington, Employer Engagement Manager at Northumbria University commented; ‘Georgina gaining a position with EC Harris following her degree really demonstrates the worth of industrial placements. In a tough job market, where graduates are finding it difficult to get on the career ladder, a placement completed during university is an ideal way for students to get noticed’.

Georgina’s success also includes her award at the School of the Built and Natural Environment Prize Giving Ceremony held on campus in July 2012. She was presented the RICS 1947 Club Prize for Top Student in Planning and Property module on the Estate Management degree, awarded by Bill Lynn of Storeys Edward Symmonds.

Fellow first class honours graduate, Kimberley Pearce also received the Sanderson Weatherall Final Year Dissertation Prize, awarded by Robert Patterson of Sanderson Weatherall, Newcastle upon Tyne.

Barry Errington added; ‘We are incredibly grateful for the continued support from our industry colleagues as this not only helps us to recognise the achievements of our students in the form of sponsored prizes, but it also gives students like Georgina a chance to gain industry experience in the form of a placement and graduate role’.

Joining Georgina, Victoria and Kimberley in gaining top marks and going on to work for property firms in the UK, are fellow BSc (Hons) Estate Management students (pictured) Lynn Taylor  and Emma Battye, both first class honours students. Lynn completed a yearlong placement with Bradley Hall Chartered Surveyors is now working for Campbell Cairns Commercial; a leading chartered surveyors and property consultant firm based in Belfast. Emma completed her placement with Telereal Trillium and is now working with Cell CM in Leamington Spa.
