DATUM in Action – Supporting researchers to plan and manage their research data
This new JISC funded project aims to help a collaborative group of researchers working on an EU FP7 staff exchange project (MATSIQEL) to define and implement good research data management (RDM) practice. The team, Julie McLeod (Lead), Sue Childs and Elizabeth Lomas, will help the EU research staff develop a data management plan and supporting systems and evaluate their initial implementation.
The project builds on the successful DATUM for Health project, which developed training materials to promote and improve RDM capacity and skills in Higher Education institutions. It will improve practice ‘on the ground’ through implementing more effective and appropriate systems, tools/solutions and guidance for managing research data.
MATSIQEL, funded under the Marie Curie International Research Staff Exchange Scheme, involves researchers in six countries and is accumulating expertise for the mathematical and computer modelling of ageing processes. The aim of the research is to develop models that can be implemented in technological solutions (e.g. monitors, telecare, recreational games) for improving and enhancing quality of life.
MATSIQEL’s Coordinator and Deputy Coordinator, Professor Maia Angelova, School of Computing, Engineering & Information Sciences and Professor Glenda Cook, School of Health, Community & Education Studies, respectively, have both endorsed DATUM in Action, saying support for managing research data would be helpful, given the complexities of the data being used.
