New Dean for the School of Computing, Engineering and Information Sciences

Professor Glen McHale welcomed as Dean of School.

The School of Computing, Engineering and Information Sciences is delighted to welcome Professor Glen McHale as the new Dean of School.

For the four years prior to joining Northumbria University,  Professor McHale was Head of the Research and Graduate School (Science & Technology) in the College of Arts and Science at Nottingham Trent University. He was a member of the College Management Team with specific responsibility for research academic and operational matters within Science and Technology and played a leading role preparing the University for the Research Excellence Framework 2014.
 
In his earlier career Glen led a range of multidisciplinary programme developments, was responsible for the quality strand of the University’s first 24/24 maximum score QAA External Subject Review and helped develop the University’s Centre of Excellence in Teaching & Learning. He has had a strong interest in the public understanding of Science and Technology exhibiting at The Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition and The Times Cheltenham Science Festival.
 
Glen has been a leading figure in transforming Science and Technology at Nottingham Trent University and in building a world-class personal research group. He is a leading researcher in pioneering the modern field of super water-repellent materials and has published over 130 refereed journal papers in some of the best journals in the world. He has won external funding for over 40 projects including 16 personal awards from research councils, of which 14 were as Principal Investigator, and has 7 patents and experience of commercialisation funding.

Glen assumed his new role on 1st February.
