Biography

Dr Chaoying Wan joined the School of Computing, Engineering and Information Sciences in November 2011 as a member of the Mechanical Engineering subject area and the Manufacturing Technologies research group. She received her PhD degree in Materials Science from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2004.
She was a lecturer in Shanghai Jiao Tong University from 2004 to 2010, during which she conducted postdoctoral research in Loughborough University, UK from 2006 to 2008. She was awarded a Marie Curie Fellow from the European Commission and worked at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland on biomimetic fabrication of functional nanomaterials from January 2010 to October 2011.

Dr Chaoying Wan’s main scientific interests concern the chemistry and physics of functional nanomaterials, laminated composites and hierarchically structured materials with emphasis on polymer based (nano)composites; biomimetic and bioinspired synthesis of hybrid materials with reliability, efficiency and green principles for engineering applications; interaction of chemistry and mechanics, bridging chemical scales to continuum theories of materials, modeling of bio-nano-materials phenomena; reinforcement and toughening mechanism of polymer nanocomposites.
