Gerhard graduated from the University of Salzburg in 1992 with a degree in German, Geography and Economics and a PGCE equivalent teaching qualification before furthering his studies with an MSc in Computer Science from Newcastle University in 2000.
Between 1997 and 1999 Gerhard worked for Siemens Power Generation Ltd. as a Training Officer, which was ultimately the catalyst for his interest in computing then from 2000 to 2002 for Procter and Gamble as a Systems Analyst.
Having always had a desire to teach, he began working for Northumbria University in 2002, and is currently Programme Director Responsible for all undergraduate Engineering programmes.
Gerhard enjoys most about his job the combination of the progression and development of students in seeing them through from induction to graduation, employment and beyond and the feedback and contact he has with students.
He is currently working with the Cisco academy CCNA where he has now achieved Instructor status and is a professional member of the British Computer Society (MBCS).
Gerhard’s hobbies include model flying and he is a member of GBRCAA (F3A precision aerobatics body for the UK) and has been flying at competitions throughout the UK for several years.
