Subject area: Information and Communications Management
Senior Lecturer
Programme Leader:
MA/MSc Information & Library Management

I did my BA(Hons) in Librarianship at Leeds Polytechnic and then a Masters in Education through the Open University – both of which I enjoyed very much. My career started with posts in public and academic libraries and I was then appointed Head of the Information Unit  for Ultramar plc (an oil company) in London .  I started lecturing at Leeds Metropolitan University in 1990, and then joined Northumbria in 1998.The thing I enjoy most about this job is the teaching. Occasionally, I am asked to run training sessions for regional library staff and I also do some research when time permits. There have been massive changes in libraries recently with self-issue machines, and fewer library ‘counters’.  I’m beginning to investigate the impact of this on library staff. I am a member of the regional Universities, Colleges and Research Branch Committee; the Northern Training Group; the Library Users Panel here at Northumbria and also the national Personnel, Education and Training Group of CILIP

In my spare time, I love exploring the coast and countryside, walking and cycling; reading Diana Gabaldon novels and others in that genre and learning to paint – watercolours, not walls!
