Subject area: Computing
Senior Lecturer
Year One Tutor: Computing Programmes

I attended Sunderland University to study BSc (Hons) Business
Administration as an undergraduate, then decided to do the MSc in Computer
Based Information Systems. One of the reasons for this change in subject
was that I realised that business wasn’t for me and didn’t challenge me in
the way I had been hoping for. Therefore, after a few years, I decided to
go back to study computing because it was, and continues to be, a growing
industry in as much as computers will never go away.
After my Masters, I spent a couple of years doing research and teaching at
Sunderland, then joined Northumbria in January 2002. As well as my teaching
I also try to keep my hand in with research in areas of interest. However,
the biggest buzz I get from the job can be summed up in one word -
graduation! Seeing the students achievements recognised and all the hard
work and ‘pain’ suddenly seems worthwhile!
In my spare time, I enjoy walking Molly my dog, gardening (although you
wouldn’t know if you could see my garden), photography, reading, history,
crafts...
