Senior Research Assistant

Research Group: Optical Communications Research Group (OCRG)

Joaquín Pérez received the Ingeniero de Telecomunicación degree from the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, Spain, in 2004, and the Electrical Engineering Ph.D. degree from the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, Spain, in 2009.

During his Ph.D., he worked as a research assistant within the Nanophotonics Technology Center (NTC) of the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, Spain in wireless photonic integration communication systems and ultra-wideband radio-over-fibre systems.

In 2010, he joins the Optical Communications Research group (OCRG), Northumbria Communications Research Lab (NCRLab) at Northumbria University, UK, as a senior research assistant; where he is involved in free space optics systems, microwave photonics and optical access networks research activities.

Among research, he likes to play music and share it, practice sports and walk around this cultural and active city.

Research interests:

  • Microwave photonics generation
  • FSO systems
  • Hybrid RF/FSO communications
  • Optical access networks
  • Emergent radio wireless technologies
  • Radio-over-fibre system
  • Optical wireless convergence
