Michael Brockway
Subject area: Computing
Senior Lecturer
Programme Leader: BSc (Hons) Computer Science

My undergraduate degree was in Mathematics & Mathematical Logic at
Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. After graduating, I worked
in the computing in industry for a while and developed further interest in
computer science during this and my teaching career in schools and
polytechnics in New Zealand and in the UK. There is a big overlap
between computer science and mathematical logic that maybe isn’t
appreciated.
As lecturers, we face interesting academic challenges. It’s a worthwhile
job that makes a difference to people’s lives and it’s a pleasure to teach
people who are keen to learn. We have a fair amount of autonomy still
although we have to work at keeping it!
I relax by playing the piano, hill-walking and seeing friends and family.
