Product Development and Manufacturing Technology (PDMT)
PDMT is a research group founded in 2013 to provide state-of-the-art solutions to overcome the challenges of innovative product development of our changing world.
The core of PDMT is to promote product services, sustainable product development and utilising advanced traditional and Additive Manufacturing techniques. These are the major research growth areas over the coming 10 -15 years as new product development and services will be more interrelated to provide more competitive advantages to the UK manufacturing industry.
The aim of PDMT is to improve design decision support for engineers and technical management in the process of product development from the early design concept, application of advanced manufacturing techniques and processes, in-service and product end-of-life. Our research strategy is to become the centre of excellence for multi-disciplinary engineering solutions which combines together a range of analytical and computational techniques. Our strength lies in integrating the most innovative approach in engineering principles, advanced manufacturing techniques and methodologies, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools and systems.
Recent research has been conducted in collaboration and with the support of the Royal Academy of Engineering, Knowledge Transfer Partnerships and a range of national, international companies and international universities.
