Teaching

I have over 17 years of teaching experience that covers both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Electrical Power, machines and basic areas of Electrical Engineering. Administrative responsibilities and course development were part of my duties.  Main duties and achievements include:

  • Teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in addition to supervising numerous academic and R&D
  • External Examiner for many national and International universities

Research and academic/professional standing

I have over 22 years of research experience in Electrical Power Engineering, particularly in the applications of power electronics in power systems. I have 63 publications, including 11 Journal, 12 invited and 37 referred conference publications in addition to one patent and two theses (see list of publications on page 4). My research experience covers theoretical and experimental work together with the development and use of software for system design and analysis. I have conducted several consultancies for industry and I am involved in IET professional activities. My main research interests cover Power Electronics applications in power systems, power quality, distributed generation , smart grids, grid integration of electric vehicles, new and renewable energy resources.  Main duties and achievements include:

  • Leading a DTI funded project
  • Invited lectures and presentation
  • Actively involved with professional bodies and member of several working committees

Administration

I have been involved in several departmental and school committees. Currently, I am the Director of training programmes for industry (short courses) and leader of the MSc Electrical Power Engineering programme and the Power and Wind Energy Research (PaWER) group. In the former role, I ran and/or managed over 60 programmes that generated over £2.0 M income to the School.
I developed a new “power, machines and power electronics” laboratory, including the setup and associated equipment. I also obtained a grant to upgrade it to include New and Renewable Energy equipment.
I was the departmental Library representative for 4 years.
