Before coming to Northumbria University as a PhD research student, I worked in the area of ICT development in an IT department in a Thai Higher Education Institution for ten years. I have observed that telephone communication and paper-based sharing of documents are still being used in preference to electronic mail (email), while an email system has been available for staff use for many years. Getting people to use email in work purposes is a continual problem. Despite my efforts and my colleagues through training and encouragement to use email, take-up rate is still low.

Description of Project:
My research interest is about Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW), particularly email communication. It focuses on the information systems implementation process in organisations. Although email systems are commonly embedded in Thai organisations, it is uncertain what contributes to the implementation processes and successful results and what factors are correlated with diffusion of work based email use for CSCW type activities. A Thai Higher Education Institution is being used as a case study for this research. The research will be qualitative in nature, based on semi-structured interviews and template analysis.
