Stop Now Orders were brought into force by the Stop Now Orders (EC
Directive) Regulations 2001 (SI No.1422,2001).
What are they intended to do?
They are intended to beef up powers which have existed in fact since 1973
under the Fair Trading Act of that year, and to give enforcement powers
throughout the European Union.
