Law Programmes for International Students

Undergraduate Programmes

LLB (Hons) Qualifying Degree
Full-time/Part-time/Distance Learning

The LLB (Hons) programme is designed to provide students with a thorough grounding of legal principles, with the aim of enabling them to develop skills which may readily be employed in legal practice or other work-related fields. The course can be studied full-time as well as on a part-time or distance learning basis, making it ideal for those students who are unable to attend the University on a full-time basis.

LLB (Hons)/M Law Exempting (Bar Professional Training Course)
Full-time

This programme integrates the undergraduate stage of legal education with the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC), the vocational stage of training for aspiring barristers. It is the only programme of its kind in England and Wales. On successful completion of the programme, students will be qualified barristers and in a position to enter pupillage. The programme provides the opportunity to develop the skills essential to practice at the Bar. There is an opportunity for contact with the practising Bar via moots, mock trials and social events.

LLB (Hons)/M Law Exempting
Full-time

Formerly entitled LLB (Hons) Solicitors Exempting, this new route is an integrated Masters programme. Graduates obtain a Masters level qualification while at the same time achieving a Qualifying Law Degree and exemption from the Legal Practice Course, the vocational qualification for prospective solicitors. It enables students to go straight into a law firm as a trainee solicitor subject to obtaining a training contract. Students are introduced to legal rules and concepts in both their theoretical and practical contexts from day one. They engage in clinical and experiential learning throughout the course culminating in full case work on behalf of real clients in the final year.

LLB (Hons) Law with Business

Full-time

This programme provides an integrated Qualifying Law Degree. The specialist business modules enable students to develop a knowledge and understanding of the inter-relationship between law and business and associated concepts such as commercial and business awareness. The programme will be of interest not only to those wishing to go on to study on the Legal Practice Course or Bar Professional Training Course and qualify as a solicitor or barrister but also anyone with an interest in working in business, either as part of an organisation or as an individual entrepreneur.

LLB (Hons) Law with International Business

Full-time

An integrated Qualifying Law Degree, this programme combines two complementary subject areas to provide students with a detailed knowledge of the legal framework within which businesses worldwide operate, as well as an appreciation of the world of international business and an understanding of major business concepts. The programme is delivered by the School of Law in conjunction with Newcastle Business School, one of the longest established UK business schools with an excellent reputation both at home and abroad. With a student population of around 6,400 Newcastle Business School is a truly international business school and with 20 years of delivering international programmes students are given unparalleled opportunities to experience business in an international context.
