Contribution Roll Celebration
Law Students recognised for their outstanding contribution to Law School community
The Contribution Roll, sponsored by Ben Hoare Bell Solicitors, is an initiative designed to celebrate the excellent contribution made by students to the life of the Law School by way of extra-curricular activity, student representation, involvement in societies and many other ways.
At a ceremony held at the Law School, the following students were congratulated on their achievement by Jeff Dean, Managing Partner at Ben Hoare Bell and Kevin Kerrigan, Acting Dean of Northumbria Law School:
Elizabeth Burns, GDL Full-time
From the outset of the GDL, Elizabeth has worked with the Marketing Team as a student ambassador. She has been an excellent support when promoting our programmes at Law Fairs across the country and at GDL Open Events. She has a real passion for Northumbria.
Lydia Burnside-Hughes, M Law Exempting
Lydia has been a major asset to the Law School this year in various ways. Lydia is a keen Students' Union volunteer and has volunteered her time to be part of the 'welcome team' and also by being a fantastic team leader at 'RAG' week. Lydia also runs her own voluntary project in the form of a tea dance and she is the ambassador for 'Volunteering with Older People".
Adam Chaffer, LLB (Hons)
Adam is a highly proactive person, contributing to many aspects of the legal community. As President of the Debating Society for two consecutive years, and a founding member, he has helped provide an access to an area which is often deemed the reserve of law students.
James Chaperlin, M Law Bar Exempting
James has been an active member of the Debating Society for the past two years. He has excelled at this job and worked at making new members feel included. He has recently been elected to the Grey Society as the General Secretary showing continued dedication to making the experience at the Law School better.
Joma Cook, LLB (Hons) Solicitors Exempting
Joma was heavily involved in the Law School Student Volunteering Committee. As a member of the committee she worked with Newcastle Citizens Advice Bureau to set up a scheme whereby 20 students volunteered two hours of their time per week on a rota basis to train up as Gateway Assessors.
Ronagh Craddock, LLB (Hons) Solicitors Exempting
Ronagh founded the Debating Society in 2009. She has excelled in her job inspiring many others to take part in competitions outside of the University. Ronagh has also recently set up the Human Rights Society.
Tori Dunford, M Law Exempting
Tori was elected by AMICUS as their student representative for Northumbria University in November 2010. In addition, Tori has been actively involved in various societies within the Law School including, the Debating Society and Mock Trial Society.
Hannah Horne, LLB (Hons) Solicitors Exempting
Hannah was last year elected Lay Councillor of the Students' Union due to her active participation in fighting for the rights of Northumbria students. Hannah has represented law students on issues such as rising tuition fees, hidden fees and equality to all students taking them to the Vice Chancellor. Hannah was recently elected as Vice President Welfare and Equality of the Students' Union.
Ashley Kneale, LLB (Hons) Solicitors Exempting
Ashley has made a major contribution to the Law School's mock trial society for several years. During his time as Chairman of the mock trial society he has contributed to a number of marketing events and also to the 'Princes in the Tower' event organised by Consett Comprehensive School in conjunction with Muckle LLP.
Catherine MacLaine, LLB (Hons) Solicitors Exempting
Catherine participated in the Negotiation competition, an inter-varsity dispute resolution event sponsored by the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution, progressing through the Regional Heat and going on to be the first team from Northumbria to represent the University at national level.
Rebekah Mayrick, M Law Exempting
Rebekah is a course rep for the second year students and puts a vast amount of work into ensuring student's voices are heard. She organised a trip to London for prospective Bar students which involved liaising with the Inns of Court. Rebekah has also set up the Woolf Society.
Alistair Mills, BPTC Full-time
Alistair was involved in a huge national campaign for the University Alliance and attended interviews and a photo shoot in London as well as a high profile event at the House of Commons. He has always been keen to support marketing activity.
Laura Nagel, GDL Full-time
Laura has been an excellent student who has wholeheartedly thrown herself into Law School life both in terms of her studies and her wider contribution to the Law School. She has worked with the Marketing Team as a student ambassador, attending Law Fairs and GDL Open Days and passionately telling prospective students about life at Northumbria.
Tim Patchett, M Law Exempting
Over the past year, Tim has been a representative of the Law School in the marketing initiative known as 'NU Friend'. In this role Tim has given presentations and been involved in other promotional work, including being available to answer prospective law students via social network sites or email.
Johanna Rhodes, LLB (Hons) Solicitors Exempting
In her final year of study, Johanna has proved to be a superb ambassador for the Law School. This is not just at Northumbria, where she was nominated for Northumbria Students' Union's Lifetime Achievement Award, but also on a national and even international stage following her successful election to represent students at the NUS National Conference and her first term studies at Jonkoping University, Sweden.
Josephine Shaw, M Law Exempting
Josie is an extremely hard working student. She has managed to juggle both the intensity of her course with her work as a student rep. She has also participated in events for the Students' Union.
Sarah Smith, LLB (Hons) Solicitors Exempting
This year Sarah became involved with the Student Law Volunteering project. She was also involved with the Law in the Quad event during Pro Bono Week and has assisted with the year two programme by giving feedback on actor interviews.
Victoria Smith, GDL and LPC Full-time
Victoria was a shining star from the start. She started the GDL with a training contract and from the outset has worked with the Marketing Team as a student ambassador.
Kirsty McLean, M Law Bar Exempting
