Students making a difference
Students at Northumbria Law School were recently recognised in a special ceremony to mark the School’s first Contribution Roll awards.![]() |
- The Contribution roll is a new initiative to celebrate the excellent contribution made by students to the life of the Law School by way of extra-curricular activity, student representation, involvement in societies and many other ways. Students were nominated by staff or fellow students and the successful ones were selected from a shortlist by a judging panel comprising the Dean, the Registrar and an External Examiner.
- The following students are to be congratulated on their achievement:
- Laurie Murphy, LLB (Hons) Solicitors Exempting Year 4 - For her excellent work as president of the Grey Society, the School of Law Student Society.

Morgan Brien, LLB (Hons) Bar Exempting Year 3 - For his enthusiastic and able representation of the Law School in various mooting competitions. -
Ben Thorogood, LLB (Hons) Bar Exempting Year 3 - As with Morgan, for his great contribution as a Law School mooting representative. -
Carrie Donaghy, LLB (Hons) Solicitors Exempting Year 3 - For her representative activities as School rep and her leadership in representing student voices before the Parliamentary Select Committee. -
Joy Hamilton, LLB (Hons) Part-time Year 4 - For her long-standing and hugely valuable representation of students on the part time law degree. -
Emma Richardson, LLB (Hons) Solicitors Exempting Year 3 - For her extremely valuable contribution as a School rep and as the “Friend for law”. -
Christopher Smith, LLB (Hons) Solicitors Exempting Year 4 - For his extraordinary efforts in developing the Mock trial society. -
Alexander McFarlane, GDL Year 1 DL - For his inclusivity and enthusiasm as a programme rep on the CPE and LLM. -
Emma Lavery, LLB (Hons) Solicitors Exempting Year 3 - For her enthusiasm and diligence in working with the marketing team and in developing the Grey Society.
