Dean's Awards

Northumbria Law School is pleased to announce that we have established a Dean’s Awards Fund of £30,000 for the 2012 BPTC and LPC intakes.

In the case of the BPTC, Dean’s Awards will be open to students who have applied to Northumbria Law School in the first round of applications for either the full-time or part-time BPTC. Students must have selected Northumbria as either their first, second or third choice and have applied via BPTC Online by 12th January 2012.

Given that the Bar Professional Training Course is designed to prepare students for pupillage in England and Wales, a simulated pupillage application, resembling the OLPAS application form, will be used as the initial selection method. Shortlisted applicants will then be invited to interview currently planned to take place on Friday 2nd March 2012.

How to apply (BPTC)

If you wish to apply for an Award, please complete this form

Applicants will be shortlisted for interview using the following criteria:

  • Content and presentation of the application form;
  • Academic and professional merit;
  • Relevant legal and other experience;
  • Interests and achievements;
  • Fluency of language.

Applications must be received by Monday 20th February 2012 and must be emailed to Lucy McKale at lucy.mckale@northumbria.ac.uk.

Shortlisted applicants will be notified by Friday 24th February with interviews taking place on Friday 2nd March at Northumbria University.

Successful applicants will have the amount of the Award deducted from their Northumbria BPTC tuition fees.

All BPTC first round applicants will also be emailed the information on how to apply that appears above. Applicants will be told whether they have been successful in their application for an Award before the deadline for the acceptance of a BPTC place.

If you have any questions about the Dean’s Awards, please contact law@northumbria.ac.uk.

In the case of the LPC, Dean’s Awards will be open to students who have applied to Northumbria Law School for either the full-time or part-time LPC. Students must have selected Northumbria as either their first, second or third choice and have applied via the Central Applications Board for the full time programme, or directly to the University for the part time programme, by 30th March 2012.

Given that the Legal Practice Course is designed to prepare students for training contracts in England and Wales, a simulated training contract  application will be used as the selection method.
