Northumbria Law Student is off to the Big Apple

Each year, national law firm Irwin Mitchell offers one lucky Northumbria Student the opportunity to win an International Pro Bono Scholarship.

New York City
This year’s sought after Scholarship has been awarded to Megan McColgan, a third year student on the Solicitor’s Exempting Degree.

The scholarship, now in its 7th year, is open to all third year students on the LLB Exempting Degree. It provides one student the opportunity to undertake a four week internship at CUNY School of Law, in New York.

The internship allows the successful student the opportunity to experience law in practice within a different legal jurisdiction, with a bit of sightseeing for good measure. It is also an impressive addition to their CV.

The scholarship twins two experts in the field of clinical legal education; CUNY School of Law consistently ranks among the top 10 law schools in the USA for clinical legal training and Northumbria Law School was awarded the prize for 'Best Contribution by a Law School' at the Attorney General’s Student & Pro Bono Awards 2010. Northumbria and CUNY also share the common goal of assisting those who, without the help of the law clinics, would not otherwise have access to legal representation.

Northumbria Law School is grateful to both Irwin Mitchell and CUNY for making the Scholarship possible.
