Northumbria Highly Commended at Law Society Excellence Awards

Northumbria University's Student Law Office is delighted to have been Highly Commended in the Education and Development Category of the prestigious Law Society Excellence Awards.

The awards scheme is an annual showcase for excellence in the legal profession and attracted a large number of applications from leading law firms.

The School beat off stiff competition from two big hitting international law firms, Eversheds LLP and Linklaters LLP at last night's award ceremony in London.

The judging panel said "This entry was a clear stand-out as an example of an excellent legal education programme that combined practical experience with academic learning, while making a valuable contribution to the community. The judges liked the combined delivery of law degree and LPC work, and the exposure to hands-on practical experience ensures that graduating students are 'office ready', which is exactly what employers are looking for. The programme demonstrates best practice in legal education while at the same time making a positive contribution to the community."

Philip Plowden, Dean of Northumbria Law School said "I am delighted that our innovative Student Law Office has been recognised at this esteemed awards ceremony. It has been a remarkable year for the School and this further recognition of our work builds on the Attorney General's Pro Bono Law School of the Year Award and National Training Award which we won earlier in the year."

In addition to the School's success, a graduate of Northumbria received the Highly Commended award in the Junior Lawyer of the Year category.
