Northumbria shortlisted for Law Society Excellence Award
Northumbria School of Law has been shortlisted for the prestigious Law Society Excellence Awards 2011 in the category of Excellence in Community Investment.
The School was shortlisted for the community work of its Student Law Office, a free legal service where law students offer free advice and representation to members of the public under the supervision of qualified lawyers as part of their academic and professional development.
The award highlights best practice and innovation in community investment including fundraising and charitable giving, pro bono and non-legal volunteering. The judges look for innovative and sustainable solutions to an identified need which produce significant impacts for both the community and the organisation.
The competition for this award is stiff including major international law firms, Freshfield Bruckhaus Deringer LLP, Hogan Lovells LLP and Simmons & Simmons LLP.
Kevin Kerrigan, Acting Dean of the Law School said "I am delighted that the Law School has been shortlisted for such an esteemed award. This is a true reflection of the huge amount of staff and student time devoted to offering a free legal service for the community as part of our clinical legal education programmes."
The awards ceremony is to be held in London on Tuesday 18 October.
