Free Legal Advice in Honour of Pro Bono Week

As part of National Pro Bono week, Northumbria Law School’s award-winning Student Law Office offered staff, students and members of the public the opportunity to obtain free legal advice.

Staff and Students from the Student Law Office, joined by two solicitors from international law firm Eversheds, organised two events during Pro Bono week to give on the spot, confidential legal advice on a range of legal issues including housing, employment, civil (including consumer), benefits and crime.

The sessions, which took place in Northumbria University’s Students’ Union, were a great help to those who attended. Client feedback was very positive, one client said: “This is a very informative service and a brilliant scheme.”

Carol Boothby, Director of the Student Law Office said: “The legal advice sessions were a great success and have resulted in the Student Law Office helping 36 clients over the two clinic sessions. I feel that these activities help to raise the profile of pro bono work within the community and have hopefully improved public knowledge and understanding of the law and the free legal work undertaken by our staff and students. We are grateful to Eversheds for supporting this very worthwhile event.”
