Law Lecturer shortlisted for annual award

Siobhan McConnell has been shortlisted for the LawCareers.Net Law Lecturer of the Year award following nomination by her students.

The award will be made at the LawCareers.Net Training & Recruitment Awards (TARAs) held at the Swiss Re Building (AKA 'The Gherkin') in the City of London on Thursday 24 May. The award was introduced in recognition of the fact that inspiring and engaging teaching is a key driver in making students believe that a career in law is right for them. In all, 220 lecturers were nominated by those they teach so it is a remarkable achievement that Siobhan has made it to the final six.

Siobhan is up against academics from Kent, Manchester, KCL, Cambridge and Keele.  These include Professor Jeremy Horder, former Law Commissioner, Professor Rodney Brazier, former Specialist Adviser to the House of Commons Public Administration Committee, chairman of consumer credit appeal tribunals and informal constitutional adviser to the Queen's Private Secretary, and Professor John Spencer, President of the European Criminal Law Association.

Siobhan joined Northumbria School of Law in September 2010 and is module tutor for the Sale of Goods and Consumer Protection modules on the M Law Exempting programme. She also teaches Commercial Contracts at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Siobhan is a supervisor in the Student Law Office where she manages a team of students advising businesses on legal issues.
