Dr Emma Stevenson

Emma Stevenson is Senior Lecturer in Applied Sport and Exercise Sciences & Associate Director of the Brain, Performance and Nutrition Research Centre.  Emma completed her PhD in Sports Nutrition at Loughborough University under the supervision of Professor Clyde Williams in 2005. Following this, Emma worked as a postdoctoral research fellow in the School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Nottingham.

Emma’s research focuses on the effects of nutritional interventions on sport and exercise performance. Specifically, Emma has published extensively on the effects of the glyceamic index of carbohydrates consumed before and after exercise on metabolism and performance in both athletes and sedentary individuals. More recently, Emma’s research has focused on the effects of nutritional interventions on appetite and energy intake. Emma has carried out a number of industry funded research projects for companies such as GlaxoSmithKline, Naturex and Mars Inc and is currently working on collaborative projects with Newcastle Science City, The Dairy Council and Sunderland Association Football Club.

Emma currently works as a consultant Sports Nutritionist for Sunderland Association Football Club and has previously worked with a number of International athletes and squads including the England Women’s football squads, Great Britain Ice Skating, England Netball and The Professional Golf Association.

Emma is a member of the Nutrition Society, The American Society of Nutrition, British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences and The Association for the Study of Obesity.
