Travel Scholarships
As part of Newcastle Business School‘s undergraduate philosophy, designed around business knowledge and personal development, the school places an emphasis on value added business education.
The Travel Scholarship scheme, which has been running for four years, assists students with funding that enables them to participate in charitable projects in numerous countries across the world, including Thailand, Vietnam, China, Zambia and Uganda. Some of the projects undertaken include building homes, teaching in orphanages and working with underprivileged children.
Why Apply?
The primary aim of the Travel Scholarship scheme is to encourage personal development that provides students with the opportunity to develop their leadership and decision making skills, as well as make a real impact in helping others who are less fortunate than themselves. Students are able to use their past experiences to help shape their future as graduates and become business-ready individuals.
Past Travel Bursary Students
Marketing Management Graduate Caroline Smith took part in the Travel Scholarship scheme. Caroline had the opportunity to volunteer at an all-girls orphanage with BOVA (Bosco Volunteer Action), an overseas volunteering organisation of the Salesians of Don Bosco. Caroline explains: "
My time volunteering in Bolivia was easily one of the best experiences of my life. I have developed in confidence and maturity, learned a lot about myself and improved my communication skills. The financial aid enables you to travel to places which otherwise would have been too expensive, giving you the opportunity to travel and experience the poorest developing countries where voluntary work is most needed."
