Psychology and Sport Sciences
Welcome to the School of Psychology and Sport
Sciences. On this website you can find out more about the School
including information about undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, international students, research centres, staff profiles and recent news. You will find us a
vibrant School – we care about our students and our learning and research
community.
Our programmes are regularly reviewed to ensure that they are up to date, challenging and relevant to the personal development and future careers plans of our students. Professional bodies in both psychology (British Psychological Society) and sport sciences (British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences) have praised the quality of our provision and the commitment of our staff. We have a number of exciting new programmes being launched in 2010, more information about these courses can be found here.
A strong research culture continues to thrive in the School with significant success in the Research Assessment Exercise 2008 (RAE). Sport demonstrated a core of internationally recognised quality research (some identified as ‘world leading’) - a great achievement for a first submission. 90% of research in Psychology is of international quality, placing the Department 40th out of 76 submissions, a rise of 6 places since 2001. The School is offering a number of Doctoral Studentships in 2010, more information on these opportunities can be found here.
This is a very exciting time for us. The School has recently moved into state-of-the-art facilities, and our flagship research centres - the Brain, Performance and Nutrition Research Centre (BPNRC), the Cognition and Communication Research Centre (CoCo) and the Sport, Exercise & Wellbeing Research Centre (SEW) now house the latest in research technology. Work is well underway on a £30 million sports facility with high specification sport science and coaching laboratories, being built adjacent to the School in the heart of Newcastle upon Tyne (due for completion June 2010). A fly through of the new facility can be found here.
