Department of Psychology
Welcome to the Department of Psychology
Our undergraduate portfolio consists of BSc (Hons) Psychology, BSc (Hons) Psychology with Sport Sciences, BSc(Hons) Psychology with Criminology and Bsc (Hons) and Psychology with Linguistics, all of which are accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) to provide GBC (Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership, replacing what was formerly known as GBR) a necessary qualification for entry into professional training programmes. For non-psychology graduates we offer an MSc in Psychology which also provides GBC.
At the postgraduate level we provide BPS-accredited professional masters degree programmes in Occupational Psychology and Sport & Exercise Psychology. We also offer an MSc in Nutrition & Psychological Science, a Masters in Research, and postgraduate training in Business Psychology and Sport & Exercise Behaviour.
The Department has an excellent reputation for research. In the Research Assessment Exercise 2008 90% of research in Psychology was found to be of international quality, placing the Division 40th out of 76 submissions, a rise of 6 places since the RAE 2001. Students and staff benefit from outstanding facilities, including our Brain, Performance and Nutrition Research Centre and Cognition & Communication Research Centre. Our findings and publications are often reported in the media and international conferences. We focus on applications of psychology based on sound psychological theory and evidence, and emphasis is placed on collaboration with industry and external research partners.
