|  | With the advent of the 2012 Olympics the role of sport and exercise has never been more in the spotlight. There are now some fantastic opportunities for suitably qualified graduates to make important contributions to both elite sport and to public health. The Applied Sport and Exercise Science degree at Northumbria enables students to pursue both performance and participation strands, maximising personal choice and employability. Students study core modules in psychology, physiology and health. At level 6 there is an opportunity for students to apply their skills in a vocational context, working one to one with a real sports performer. This course is recognised by the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BUES endorsed). |

|  | All sports have a wide range of performers, from a participation level to elite athletes. Both types of performer require skilled and knowledgeable coaching. The coaching and development of these different performers requires a wide range of practical skills and theoretical knowledge. At the participation level many coaching programmes are community or school-based and often involve large numbers of performers. At the elite level athletes are serviced by top coaches via National Governing Bodies and organisations such as the EIS. The BSc (Hons) Applied Sport Science with Coaching has been designed to provide the knowledge and skills to work with performers from the participation level all the way through to understanding sport science support for elite performers. |
