Research & Innovation

A strong research culture exists within the School, which was reflected in our significant success in Research Assesment Exercise 2008 (RAE).  Sport demonstrated a core of international quality research with some identified as 'world leading' - a great achievement for a first submission.  In Psychology, 90% of research was rated as international quality, placing the department 40th out of 76 submissions a rise of six places since 2001.

The School has recently moved into state-of-the-art facilities, and our flagship research centres – the Brain, Performance and Nutrition Research Centre (BPNRC) the Cognition and Communication Research Centre (CoCo) and the Sport, Exercise and Wellbeing Research Centre (SEW) now house the latest in research technology.  The development of a new £30 million sports facility (due for completion in 2010) with high specification sport science and coaching laboratories available for research, teaching and sport science research will be a focus for excellence  in research over the coming years.  The combination of psychology and sport within a single school affords the opportunities to examine the relationship between mind and body – the core research focus of the School.
