English Language Centre

Welcome to the English Language Centre at Northumbria University. We provide a warm, friendly and supportive environment for international students to prepare for UG and PG study. We offer a range pre-sessional programmes throughout the year and we also have a large Summer School.

In addition, we provide in-sessional support to international students across the university and we also offer a portfolio of short courses for professionals.

Students will experience a range of academic contexts and tasks and develop their ability to deal with the study requirements of a British university whilst improving their academic and social English.

Our programmes aim to help students to become confident, independent and reflective learners who are able to devise their own strategies for continuing their English language and academic development both at Northumbria and beyond.

We are based in the School of Arts and Social Sciences, which has a strong reputation for quality teaching and research. We have a team of innovative, dedicated and highly experienced academic staff, some of whom are published authors and materials writers. Our staff are dedicated to practice-based research to inform and develop our cutting-edge curriculum.

Teaching takes place in Squires Workshop. Administrative and academic offices are also in this building as well as our Language Resource Centre where students can study independently.

The Centre places great importance on the quality of experience it provides to students form a wide range background and countries including, the UK & Europe, the Middle East, Africa, South East and East Asia, Latin-America and the Indian Sub continent.

All our English language programmes are accredited by the British Council.
