Poetry Book Society Pamphlet Choice for Northumbria lecturer

Poems by Tony Williams selected for Winter 2011

All the Rooms of Uncle's Head, Tony Williams's collection of sonnets on landscape and mental illness, has been selected as the Poetry Book Society Pamphlet Choice for Winter 2011. The PBS selectors said it was 'one of the strangest panphlets you'll ever read.'

The poems draw on the forms and themes of outsider art to recreate the life of an inmate of a mental asylum in the early years of the twentieth century.

You can hear Tony read, along with Peter Bennet, at Newcastle Centre for the Literary Arts at a special reading to mark this year's Bloodaxe Poetry Lectures, given by Sean O'Brien on the theme of Englishness in contemporary poetry. The lectures run on Monday 5, Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 December, and the reading takes place on Thursday 8 December. See the NCLA website for further details.
