Students that apply before 22 June will be informed of their application's success no later than 2 July. Final deadline for applications no later than 7 September.
The MA in History offers you the opportunity to choose from a wide range of options to design a programme that reflects your interests. Students continuing from our undergraduate programmes will have the the chance to pursue a further year of taught study on the historical subjects they enjoyed most as undergraduates; students new to Northumbria will get the opportunity to be taught by specialists in their fields. Students can choose from the following strands:
- American History
- British History
- European History
- Early Modern History
The content of the MA programme consists primarily of taught modules led by experts in the field of study. Students also conduct independent research on a topic of their choice that corresponds with the historical strand they decide to concentrate on. Independent research will be supervised by an expert in the historical field who will closely assist MA students through their degree.
Distance Learning
The MA in History can be studied at Northumbria’s Newcastle campus or can be studied completely online. With the busy schedules of students in mind, the MA in History has created an innovative online learning environment where students can listen to podcasted lectures, interact with other students in discussion forums, complete dynamic assessments, and have face-to-face meetings with their supervisor. Northumbria’s distance learning uses the same e-Learning Portal for undergraduate students so easy access is guaranteed along with 24/7 technical support.
